Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime

Mid-nineties post-hardcore good-music.

Sufjan Stevens - Michigan

MY personal favorite Sufjan Stevens album.

Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire - The Swimming Hour

Easily the best Bowl of Fire album. Andrew Bird is always terrific, and if you've never heard this, you'll love it.

hail satan.

My Cover of Little Birds - Neutral Milk Hotel

I thought I'd take a break from posting albums and post a video of myself singing THE best neutral milk hotel song.

Neutral Milk Hotel - Discography

i know that i already uploaded on avery island earlier in the year, but i thought i'd go ahead and put up everything i could find by one of my favorite bands. in no specific order:

invent yourself a shortcake

(i know this isn't the real album. i can't find the actual picture.)

holland 1945 single

NWA - Straight Outta Compton

yeah, i'll say it. this may be the greatest rap album ever released. if you are a fan of rap, even the slightest bit, you'll love it. regardless, you need to hear it.

Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited

speaking of dylanesque musicians, i think i've found the ultimate one. i'm sure you've heard this album, but it's most definitely worth the second listen.

Botch - We Are the Romans

Another request sent via email from some guy. I've never heard this album, and know nothing about it. Enjoy.

These United States - Crimes

and indie bob dylan from washington d.c.

sorry, as always, for the rapidshare.

clap your hands say yeah - s/t

The American Analog Set - From Our Living Room to Yours

GREAT FUCKING ALBUM. i actually forgot about this band.

cursive - happy hollow

if you've heard cursive, you've more than likely heard the ugly organ or domestica. happy hollow was the 2006 follow-up to the ugly organ, and most definitely their best cd recently. mama, i'm swollen, their most recent effort, was their weakest by far. i think cursive may be getting stuck in a rut, which might not be a bad thing. anyways /rant

every time i die - hot damn!

i really don't have much to say about this one, other than this wasthe first "hardcore" cd i ever bought, and about the last one honestly. i think hot damn is terrific though. the lyrics and vocals are great. if you're even remotely into hardcore music, get this.

favorite track: ebolarama

these arms are snakes - oxeneers or the lion sleeps when its antelope go home

hmmm....strange. a great band out of seattle. whoda thunk? when i was in tenth grade, big news was my jam. like the entire year. if you've never heard these arms are snakes, this is the perfect place to start.

favorite track: obviously, big news.

little wayne - the carter iii

i'll tell you what, i kind of hate little wayne, and i have 3 reasons.

1. he abbreviates his name lil' wayne. i just hate the abbreviation lil'
2. he thinks he's going to be a rock star.
3. he uses autotune.

but i'll forgive him because the carter 3 is a great hip hop album. his voice is one of the most unique i've heard as far as a rapper, and his flow is amazing. sure this is a really mainstream release, but you definitely need to add it to your collection.

favorite track: playing with fire

Madvillain - Madvillainy

This album easily has the best beats I've ever heard in any rap album ever. It almost makes me sick how awesome Madvillain is. I'm not sure if this is truly underground rap because a lot of the people I know have heard this, but if you haven't you should be really excited. Your world is about to change.

FAVORITE TRACK: All Caps

iron and wine - the creek drank the cradle

the very first iron and wine song that i ever heardwas probably the same one you heard. "such great heights" was one of the most striking singles i've ever listened to. the first time i heard it, it was on a m&m's commercial, and i actually looked the song up online. it isn't often that you hear a song on television, and in a brief 30 seconds fall in love. anyways, i don't want this to turn into a love letter to sam beam, the musician behind iron and wine. all you really need to know is this is easily the greatest album of its kind, which is lo-fi, acoustic/folky music. please if you've never heard it download it and give it a chance.

favorite track: upward over the mountain

Lightspeed Champion - Falling off the Lavender Bridge

The Decemberists - The Crane Wife

My favorite Decemberists album. Actually only the second one I've heard, but still technically my favorite.

Beastie Boy - Paul's Boutique

If you are a hardcore Beastie Boy fan like I am, you KNOW this is their best effort to date. If not, prepare to be delightfully surprised.

Megafaun - Gather, Form, and Fly

p.s. it's good.

7.25.2009

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy

I'm going to switch it up a bit and put an old favorite on here instead of a newer album. I know I say this a lot, but this album really changed my whole outlook on music. The fact that there's something so obscure and amazing really makes me happy.

Simon Joyner - Hotel Lives

My new favorite Simon Joyner album. Please download this.

Dinosaur Jr - Farm

A return to form of sorts for Dinosaur Jr. Let me know if the link doesn't work. It worked for me, but other people said this didn't work.

The Dodos - Visiter

Another request from a friend. I really need to tell them how to find these albums.

Vetiver - To Find Me Gone

I really really really hate the term freak-folk. If these records were released at any point in history, they would just be called folk. Our genre-obsessed culture has gone a little overboard, and the result is "freak-folk". What it really is is a bunch of dudes that want to take a little lsd and make good music. If you wanna call it anything, try new folk or folk. I call it awesome and this is one of my favorite new folk albums. Well, it was actually released in 2006, but I'm not going to argue semantics. Really good music.

Two Gallants - The Throes

Man, I'm on a roll. I've really been sleeping on this band, and I shouldn't have. They're great, honestly. This is the only CD I have by them, and I love it.

Tapes 'n Tapes - The Loon

Really good indie rock stuff. Don't forget guys, if there's anything in specific you'd like to see on here, pleaaaase let me know.

The Weepies - Say I Am You

A request from my friend. I have never heard this band, but he said they were terrific and I trust his judgement.

The Mountain Goats - The Coroner's Gambit

I was just looking back through my posts, and realized that I didn't have one Mountain Goats album up. I was shocked honestly since they have been a mainstay in my music collection for a long time. This album is a good place to start.

The Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2

I would love to say that this was what I was listening to in 2001, but it would be a humongous lie. Thank god for the advent of the internet, music blogs, and wikipedia. See, Wikipedia is how I find most of my music. I move from page to page with cat-like reflexes, looking for anything that would whet my appetite for new music.
I think I found this album around 3 years ago, and it completely changed the type of music that I listened to (which at the time was shitty radio rock and pop music. I am thoroughly ashamed.)
Anyways, you desperately need this album. Download it and listen to it every single day for the rest of your life. I know I've listened to it at least once a week since I found it.

Heatmiser - Cop and Speeder

The immortal Elliott Smith's band before going solo was Heatmiser. You'll definitely recognize his voice and his lyrics, but otherwise it has a much more pop/rock dynamic.

THE SIXTY ONE

I don't know if you guys have ever been on this site before, but it's fucking awesome. It's basically a humongous community of musicians and music lovers who upload their stuff and it gets rated. You seriously should check it out here.

7.21.2009

Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt

2nd best jay-z album. i've been really into this lately.

Wye Oak - If Children

Wye Oak has a new album out, but I couldn't find a link anywhere, so here's last years release from one of my favorite boy-girl indie bands.

(my bad on the rapidshare)

7.20.2009

Feist - The Reminder

i'm am as far away from sexist as a man can possibly be. that being said, i usually can't stand a woman's singing voice. there is a very short list of girls i can stand listening to.

Matt and Kim - Grand

really poppy fun stuff.

Alkaline Trio - From Here to Infirmary

the best alk3 album with my favorite song ever on it. care to guess which one?

7.08.2009

Eastbound & Down

I'm not going to give you a link to download this. Everyone should own this DVD set. Easily one of the best series on t.v. today. GO BUY IT, ONLY $20 DOLLARS!

elliott smith - either/or

if you haven't heard this album, you should be ashamed of yourself.

7.06.2009

Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica

the best album by one of my favorite bands.

Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca

In order to save time, I'm going to stop doing my awkward little intros. Just trust me, everything I upload is great.
